God loves us and He has always wanted to talk with us, to tell us some good news. It is rare that God has ever spoken to us directly, rather through mediators. He has done so because his Voice is so powerful that it consumes. In the old testament we read of Jacob exclaiming; “I saw God face to face, and yet my life has been spared (Gen32:30). To see God is to die and so does to hear God directly.
But, God want us to hear Him that we may stay alive.
Hearing him require right disposition of the heart. Require the opening of the
ears of the heart. It requires the softening and not the hardening our hearts.
In the Psalm 95: 8, the psalmist says; “today if you
would hear His voice do not harden your hearts as you did in Meribah ….…, where
your ancestors tested me; they tried me though they had seen what I did. For
forty years I was angry with tat generation I said they are a people whose hearts
go astray and they have not known my ways. So I declare on oath in my
anger, they shall never enter my rest.
Hearing his voice is the beginning of the change we
want to see in our lives. It is the beginning of true conversion.
But often times, we don’t hear the Voice of God because we are destructed with other voices. The
voices which districts us the most are the voices of idols. The psalmist again
in Psalm 115 is very clear about this. He says, “But their idols are silver and
gold made by human hands. They have mouth but cannot speak, eyes but cannot
see, they have ears but cannot hear, noses but cannot smell. They have hands
but cannot feel, feet but cannot walk nor can they utter a sound with their
throats. Those who make them will be like
them and so will all who trust in them. Attention! Those who make them
becomes like them….
They become deaf and blind, lame and numb. They become
nothing. Idols consumes them, renders the deafness of hart. Do not be of
fainted heart, watch out your gadgets.
